ASDIP Structural Software announces the release of ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 engineering software. Design professionals utilize ASDIP FOUNDATION software for the design of footings and pile caps. Following are some of the most important features and benefits included in this version 5.

This new version includes the following six modules:

  • Spread Footing Design – Any combination of axial vertical and horizontal loads, and biaxial moments. It includes uplift and partial bearing analysis. Column can be eccentric. Multiple reinforcing options. Graphical generation of the interaction diagram.
  • Strap Footing Design – Vertical and horizontal in-plane and out-of-plane loads and moments. Multiple load types and load cases. Concrete design including checks of the ACI and CSA code provisions. Graphical generation of shear and moment diagrams and beam elevation.
  • Combined Footing Design – Two columns sharing the same footing. Shape can be either rectangular or trapezoidal. Partial bearing analysis. Vertical and horizontal in-plane and out-of-plane loads and moments. Graphical generation of the interaction, shear, and moment diagrams.
  • Wall Footing Design – Continuous footing supporting a bearing wall. Multiple gravity and lateral out-of-plane loads. Wall can be place eccentrically. Multiple reinforcing options. Graphical generation of the construction plan and section views.
  • Pile Cap Design – Pile cap can be supported by up to 20 piles. Piles can be battered. Any combination of axial vertical and horizontal loads, and biaxial moments. Graphical generation of the pile axial, shear, punching, and bending diagrams.
  • Pile Analysis & Design – Analysis and design of concrete piles, such as Drilled Piers and Augercast Piles, under vertical / horizontal loads and bending moments. Graphical generation of the shear, moment, and deflection diagrams along the pile, sortable by load combination. Reinforcement design per ACI 318.

In addition to a better layout design and dozens of improvements, the following are the most important new features and benefits in ASDIP FOUNDATION 5:

ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 - New Features

Pile Analysis & Design

New module. ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 includes the analysis and design of concrete piles, such as Drilled Piers and Augercast Piles, under vertical / horizontal loads and bending moments. Note that the analysis results can be applied to other pile materials as well. Head condition can be either free or fixed. The transverse reinforcement can be either closed ties or spiral. A bell at the tip can be modelled to improve the point bearing capacity.

Up to four layers of soil can be modelled by specifying the horizontal modulus of subgrade reaction, which can be variable along the pile. Loads can be either a single set of pre-combined loads or a full set of load cases. Load combinations per ASCE 7 or user-defined. The ACI seismic provisions are included in the calculations. Multiple options in the user interface to model this type of piles easily.

The program generates the shear, moment, and deflection diagrams along the pile, sortable by load combination. In addition, the program generates the axial-moment interaction diagram showing the applied combined loads for comparison purposes. Reinforcement design per ACI 318. Compliance with AASHTO LRFD will be added shortly. ASDIP's Pile Analysis & Design module will be the most cost effective software of its kind on the market.

Out-of-Plane Loads in Combined Footings

ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 includes out-of-plane loads in Combined Footings, in addition to the current in-plane loads. Concrete or steel columns can be modelled. Steel columns can be on top of pedestals or directly on top of the footing.

Model either rectangular or trapezoidal combined footings. Both full and partial bearing conditions are considered in the calculations. Overturning and sliding calculations have been updated accordingly. Design of longitudinal and transverse reinforcement per ACI 318 and CSA A23.3.

Out-of-Plane Loads in Strap Footings

ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 includes out-of-plane loads in Strap Footings, in addition to the current in-plane loads. Concrete or steel columns can be modelled. Steel columns can be on top of pedestals or directly on top of the footing. Strap beam can be modelled with a different thickness than the footings.

Both full and partial bearing conditions are considered in the calculations. Overturning and sliding calculations have been updated to consider the out-of-plane loads. Design of footings and strap beam reinforcement per ACI 318 and CSA A23.3.

Takeaway

ASDIP FOUNDATION 5 includes the design of Spread Footings, Combined Footings, Strap Footings, Wall Footings, Pile Caps, Drilled Piers and Augercast Piles. The design of such systems may be completed and optimized in minutes, which otherwise would be very cumbersome and time-consuming.
