asdip-steel-5-new-features

ASDIP STEEL 5 will be released shortly. It includes Base Plates, Anchor Rods, Shear Lugs, Columns, Steel / Composite Beams, Shear Connections, and a new module has been added to the package for Moment Connections design. This document is a brief overview of the most important features included in the new version of this steel design software.

Biaxial Base Plates

Now ASDIP STEEL 5 includes the design of base plates under vertical and horizontal loads, and biaxial bending. More options to model the location of anchor rods. Anchorage design per the ACI 318-19, including the seismic provisions. The new ACI design methodology for shear lugs design has been implemented. Loads can be entered as a series of load cases or as pre-combined loads. Custom load combinations can be specified, in addition to the standard ASCE 7 combinations.

ASDIP STEEL calculates the bearing pressure under the base plate and the tension forces in the anchor rods. The software checks the limit states for the anchor rods in tension and shear, and calculates the required plate thickness. For shear loads, the program also checks the limit states for the design of shear lugs.

Continuous Steel / Composite Beams

Now ASDIP STEEL 5 includes the design of steel and composite multi-span continuous beams. The previous version included single-span beams only. Now you can model up to five spans and two overhangs. More options to specify the lateral bracing along the spans. In addition, now the program allows to model more load types, such as uniform, concentrated, variable, and moment loads per span. Specify construction loads and final loads completely independent.

The software checks the limit states for steel and composite beams per the AISC 360-16, including partial composite calculations. The user-interface has been completely redesigned. Model non-composite or composite beams easily. Sort the results graphically by load combination. The reports are clean and well organized to present the results professionally.

Moment Connections

Now ASDIP STEEL 5 includes the design of moment connections per the AISC provisions. Connection types include Flange-Plated and Welded Flange. More connection types, such as End Plate, will be added to the software in the near future. The user-interface allows to model different conditions for beam to column connections.

The software checks the limit states for moment connections per the AISC 360-16, as well as the limit states for the Double-Angle or Single Plate shear connections. The software shows the controlling limit states and the controlling load combinations. In addition, the program checks the geometry to identify clashes or other problems in the connection.

Takeaway

ASDIP STEEL 5 includes the design of structural steel members and connections, with great new features and improvements, such as biaxial base plates, continuous beams, and moment connections. The design of such systems may be completed and optimized in minutes, and the results can be checked immediately as you go.

ASDIP Structural Software

  • I really like the software so far but it would be nice to add Complete Joint Penetration welds for the Flange plates at moment connections. Great software so far.
