ASDIP Structural Software announces the release of ASDIP WOOD engineering software. Design professionals utilize ASDIP WOOD software for the design of wood members. The following are some of the most important features and benefits included in this version.
This new version includes three modules:
- Wood Column Design – Uni-axial or bi-axial columns. Section can be either Sawn Lumber, Glulam, or Composite Lumber. Slenderness effects are considered. Graphical generation of the 2D and 3D interaction diagrams.
- Continuous Beam Design – Up to five spans and two cantilevers. End supports can be either fixed or pinned. Multiple load types and load cases. Graphical generation of shear and moment diagrams and beam elevation.
- Bearing Wall Design – Multiple gravity and lateral out-of-plane loads. Slenderness effects are considered. Graphical generation of the interaction diagram.

The following are the most important features and benefits in ASDIP WOOD:
NDS 2018 Full Compliance
ASDIP WOOD will fully comply with the provisions of NDS 2018 for both ASD and LRFD design.
Database or User-defined
ASDIP WOOD includes a full set of databases for section properties, as well as material properties. Alternatively, this information can be entered manually as user-defined. This will provide a great flexibility to the use of the software.
The material types included in the software are Sawn Lumber, Glued Laminated, and Composite Lumber such as as LVL, LSL, PSL.
Three Different Reports
ASDIP WOOD will show the results in three different reports, with increasing degree of detailed information.
- At-A-Glance tab shows a summary of the results in one single screen, for a quick identification of deficiencies in the design.
- Condensed tab shows a more detailed set of calculations, grouped by topic and by load combination. Ideal for a quick check of the results.
- Detailed tab shows a fully detailed calculations, with exposed formulas and references to the NDS code, for a granular check of the calculations.
Wood Beam Design
ASDIP WOOD will include the design of continuous beams under a variety of vertical loads. End supports can be either pinned of fixed. Multiple options to model the lateral bracing condition. Save time by copying loads to other spans just with a click.
The program calculates the maximum bending, shear, and bearing stresses along the beam and compares them against the structural capacity. ASDIP WOOD generates the shear and moment diagrams of the beam, sorted by load combination.
Wood Column Design
The software will include the design of biaxial columns under the action of concentrated and uniform loads. The effective buckling length can be easily modeled. Axial forces can be either tension or compression.
The program calculates the axial, bending, and shear stresses. Multiple checks for the compression - tension - bending interaction. ASDIP WOOD generates the 2D and 3D axial-moment interaction diagrams for a quick evaluation of the column capacity.
Wood Bearing Wall Design
ASDIP WOOD will include the design of bearing walls under the action of concentrated and uniform loads vertical loads, and out-of-plane wind pressure. Equally spaced studs, sheathing, and bearing plates can be modeled easily.
The program calculates the axial, bending, shear, and bearing stresses. Multiple checks for the compression - tension - bending interaction. ASDIP WOOD generates the axial-moment interaction diagram for a graphical representation of the wall capacity.
Takeaway
ASDIP WOOD has been released, including the design of Continuous Beams, Biaxial Columns, and Bearing Walls. The design of such systems may be completed and optimized in minutes with the use of the software.
