batch-printing

A typical project may contain a large number of calculations for the design of structural members. For example, a steel building may have a number of different base plates, steel columns, steel beams, shear connections, and moment connections. This document shows how to batch print out these calculations, either all of them or just the selected ones, directly from the Project Manager, just with a few clicks of the mouse. This new feature in ASDIP will save you time and effort for projects with a large number of calculations.

Batch Printing Calculations

Imagine the scenario where you open a calculation, print it out, and close it, then do the same with the next calculation, and so on. If you are designing just a few members, then it's relatively easy to print out the calculations one by one. However, if your project has dozens, or maybe hundreds of calculations, then the individual printing would be time-consuming.

Fortunately, ASDIP now includes a new feature where you can select the calculations that you want to print, and then send them to batch print, either to your printer or to a pdf file. All this with just a few clicks of your mouse to get all the selected calculations printed directly from the ASDIP Project Manager.

To use this feature, go to the ASDIP Project Manager and select the Print option under Project in the menu bar, or click on the corresponding Print icon in the tool bar. The screenshot below shows the dialog box that pops up, showing all the calculations available for printing. Here you can select all, deselect all, or select the ones that you want to print just by marking the checkbox at the left of each calculation. After you have selected the desired calculations click on the Print button.

ASDIP will ask what report you want to print, either Condensed or Detailed. After your selection click OK and select the printer from your list of printers. If the selection is "Microsoft Print to PDF" then you will need to specify the destination of the file. ASDIP will create a separate pdf file for each calculation. The file name will be the calculation name and ASDIP will append either _Condensed or _Detailed. For example, if you print the condensed report "Base Plate 1" as a pdf, ASDIP will create the file "Base Plate 1_Condensed.pdf".

At the end, each of the selected calculations will be printed out. Please note that this feature has been implemented in ASDIP STEEL only. The other ASDIP packages will be updated as well shortly. Please make use of this feature and provide your feedback.

Takeaway

ASDIP includes a new feature for batch printing the project calculations directly from the Project Manager. This will be very useful for projects with a large number of calculations. No need to spend time printing the reports one by one.
