ASDIP ANALYSIS is a software for the generation of loads, as well as for the analysis of structural members. it includes the generation of seismic loads per the Equivalent Lateral Force procedure of the ASCE 7. This document shows an example of the generation of seismic loads per ASCE 7-22 for a muti-story building using ASDIP ANALYSIS.
Seismic Loads Example
As an example, let’s consider the 14-story building shown below, which is located in a Site Class D with seismic acceleration parameters Sms = 1.25 and Sm1 = 0.86. The Seismic Force Resisting System is a Building Frame with special reinforced concrete shear walls. Calculate the seismic base shear and distribute vertically the seismic forces. Finally, calculate the seismic diaphragm story forces.

Specifying the Seismic Parameters
In the Ground Motion tab select the Site Class D, corresponding to a medium dense sand or stiff clay. Then enter the response acceleration parameters given in the statement of the example. If not provided, the program shows a link where these parameters can be found based on the project location.
Go to the Building tab and select the Risk Category II. Under the Seismic Force Resisting System section, select the option B - Building Frame Systems and click on the Design Coefficients and Factors button. In the window that pops up, select Special reinforced concrete shear walls. This will read the required factors to be used in the calculations. The software has a built-in database with the seismic factors and coefficients corresponding to the seismic force resisting system of the structure.
Finally. go to the Geometry tab and enter the number of stories in the building, in this case 14 stories. Per each story enter the seismic weight and the story height. If this information is the same for multiple stories, the values can be copied to all stories by clicking on the provided button.
The image below shows the Ground Motion tab, and a partial view of the Calculations tab.

Analyzing the Results
ASDIP ANALYSIS calculates the spectral response acceleration parameters Sds and Sd1, and it finds the Seismic Design Category SDC = D of the structure. The program then calculates the fundamental period of the structure and the seismic response coefficient, based on the calculated ground motion parameters.
Once the seismic base shear is calculated, the program distributes the seismic forces vertically to find the story shears as well as the diaphragm forces. In addition, the program shows a graphical view of the building elevation with the seismic lateral forces at each story, as shown below.
ASDIP ANALYSIS generates a detailed presentation of the results in the Calculations tab, showing step-by-step calculations organized by topic in a tabular format, with exposed formulas and references to the design code. This is excellent for a deep granular check of the calculations.

Takeaway
ASDIP ANALYSIS includes the generation of seismic loads in a multi-story building. This step-by-step example shows how quickly the calculations can be completed and optimized using ASDIP ANALYSIS. The results are shown instantly in both text and graphics format for an immediate granular check.
