ASDIP ANALYSIS is a software for the generation of loads, as well as for the analysis of structural members. it includes the generation of wind loads for MWFRS (Envelope procedure) and C&C per the ASCE 7 provisions. This document shows an example of the generation of wind loads per ASCE 7-22 for a gable-roof structure using ASDIP ANALYSIS.
Wind Loads Example
As an example, let’s consider the gable-roof building shown below, which is located in an Exposure Category C with basic wind speed of 100 mph. The building is classified as Partially Enclosed. Calculate the velocity pressure and the MWFRS wind design pressures for the different load cases prescribed in the ASCE 7. Finally, calculate the wind pressures for the roof and wall Components & Cladding.

Specifying the Wind Parameters
In the Wind Parameters tab select the Exposure Category C. Then enter the basic wind speed given in the statement of the example. If not provided, the program shows a link where these parameters can be found based on the project location.
Go to the Building tab and select the Risk Category II. Enter the building dimensions given in the statement of the example. Set the component effective area as 100 ft2 for both roof and wall. Finally. specify the enclosure classification as Partially Enclosed.
The image below shows the Wind Parameters tab, and a partial view of the Calculations tab.

Analyzing the Results
ASDIP ANALYSIS first checks that the building height h <= 60 ft and h <= Min (B, L), then it calculates the velocity pressure qh. The software calculates the MWFRS design wind pressures for the different load cases prescribed in the ASCE 7 and for the different surface zones, considering the internal positive and negative pressure coefficients. In this example the maximum pressures are 25.1 psf (zone 1E) and -31.8 psf (zone 2E).
Finally, the program calculates the wind pressures for roof and wall components & cladding (C&C). In this example the maximum C&C roof pressures are 18.0 psf and -38,2 psf. The maximum C&C wall pressures are 27.0 psf and -312.4 psf. addition, the program shows a graphical view of the building zones for the different wind load cases.
ASDIP ANALYSIS generates a detailed presentation of the results in the Calculations tab, showing step-by-step calculations organized by topic in a tabular format, with exposed formulas and references to the design code. This is excellent for a deep granular check of the calculations.

Takeaway
ASDIP ANALYSIS includes the generation of wind loads on a structure. This step-by-step example shows how quickly the calculations can be completed and optimized using ASDIP ANALYSIS. The results are shown instantly in both text and graphics format for an immediate granular check.
